The Astreea Igloo has got an upgrade! The Aluminium frame of the igloo
is now anodised aluminium meaning that is has been treated to develop an
exceptionally durable finish.
Anodising is a method for changing
the surface chemistry of metals. It protects against corrosion, enhances
aesthetic qualities, resists scratching and is one of the most durable surface
finishes available.
Unlike other finishes, anodising
allows the aluminium to maintain its metallic appearance. The fundamental
difference between anodised aluminium and non-anodised aluminium is that the
former has a layer of oxide over the surface, whereas the latter does not. From a practical standpoint, anodised aluminium offers
several benefits. The main benefit of anodised aluminium is greater protection
from corrosion.
The electrical current oxidizes the
surface and creates a protective film. Because of that, anodised aluminium
does rust but not in a typical way, and more importantly not in a harmful way. It
has increased resistance to corrosion and wear.
